In many regions in emerging markets like sub-Saharan Africa or south-east Asia, it is easier to trade with Europe, China or the US than it is to trade locally in the region. For instance, from Nigeria (where i live) it is easier to order/pay fabric from China then it is to from Lesotho... this is because of a higher cost of intra-region currency exchange (compared to a USD-based exchange), this implies you first have to convert Nigerian Naira to USD and deal in USD or find a broker that will make the local conversion on the other country end. But what of if one could deal directly with other local countries by leveraging on the near instant and invisible stellar xlm system? that is what xlmbase.com provides.
Xlmbase.com is p2p exchange similar to Localbitcoins or Reminato but with a focus on enabling fast exchange of value by people in proximity to each other. We do user matching and discovery better. Here is our project roadmap was/is:
- Complete internal 'escrow' and seller/buying discovery matching system.
- UI/UX version 1
- Integrate with relevant stellar anchor ( Parkway Projects, Flutterwave or Cellulant etc) for Naira-to-XLM purchase
- Integrate bitcoin and ethereum APIs to enable p2p exchanges for currently in-demand currencies
- Integrate with user KYC API e.g. Jumio
- Open platform to beta user
- Integrate XLM-to-(Ksh/GHC/ZAR) exchange features
- Enable more local currency pairs
