Stellarbeat - crawling and showing the Stellar network node for node

Hi everyone,

With stellarbeat.io we're setting out to make the Stellar network visible.

We're developing a crawler that finds and queries all nodes on the network and gathers as much information about them as possible.

The results will be shown on the stellarbeat.io website.

We're starting out with each node's IP, ISP and geographic location (based on GeoIP).

We also continuously track how many nodes are available, so we can see how the network grows over time.
The dataset that results from our crawling efforts will be made available to all.

It's very much a work in progress. Once the above is fully implemented and polished we have plenty of things we want to add to the dataset and statistics shown. We also plan to open-source the crawler, although with the deadline looming that is more likely to happen in the next SBC.

Any feedback is obviously very welcome.

dietervds Very cool project. This is really providing a missing piece of the puzzle for Stellar network IMO.

I was wondering if you are also planning on providing statistics for each node. If you look at the Stellar dashboard you can see that the volume has really picked up the last few days. Would be nice to be able to tell where the traffic is coming from. Is it even possible to tell from a transaction which node it was submitted to?

We're very much planning on gathering additional statistics on each node.
I'm not sure if one can tell where a transaction was submitted to actually, but we'll sure try and find out ?

That's honestly the fun part of working on this. Every day we think of new stuff we can track and show to make the Stellar network feel more tangible. And hopefully that data can be used to determine node and network reliability, in the longer run.
