Hi Galactic Talk users!
This is Thomas, and together with my friend we started this year a small startip company for data science services. Since we do this as a side project, we first focused on Social Media content analysis and would like to extend it in the future.
With this side project we wanted to try new things out, like different Python based plotting / visualization libraries, Keras based analysis of larger data sets, etc. Additionally, we wanted to host our new website, its content and analysis results in the Web 3.0 environment IPFS. As a payment option we chose Stellar and created our own Utility token. We think, that the "Memo" feature of Stellar can be used for a lot of product ideas and we wanted to test it out to trigger or software: E.g. a customer wants the analysis of #software, he or she sends this hashtag as a Memo to a corresponding account and our tools starts to proceed the request.
That's the very short story. Our product is finished and works and we want to go online in January 2019. We also created our token and a corresponding TOML file. Now, we want to decentralize all information and our site. We created an IPNS directory and uploaded a "place holder" website (https://ipfs.io/ipns/exohash.de/). Please note: IPNS can be really slow sometimes... we hope it will improve in the future.
According to the Stellar documentation the TOML file needs to be stored in .well_known/stellar.toml (for now we put a "test toml" file with only very few information there. A complete one is here: https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmfVDXgyYS5P6ihjSr3Td7z1AoJSoHcmDDxh3xM59tiZN3).
Now, we set the home domain accordingly, but websites like stellar.expert, do not recognize it properly (https://stellar.expert/explorer/public/asset/EXH-GD7S2JWO3SSA2YR2WZSKTIUIBGKBUAWKKGNBBLWJNECIZR2I7TUSC3M4). However if you check the issuer account, the link exists: https://stellar.expert/explorer/public/account/GD7S2JWO3SSA2YR2WZSKTIUIBGKBUAWKKGNBBLWJNECIZR2I7TUSC3M4
On Twitter @johansten gave us the hint, that the link is not compatible respectively does not have the proper format. A full name domain is needed and he also suggested to change the complete IPFS / IPNS link to a full name via DNS entries (CNAME and TXT Record). Theoretically, this works, however via CNAME one is not allowed to redirect to a https site. And https is needed for a proper home domain...
I hope you understand the dilemma. We want to use decentralized methods like IPFS and Stellar, however the protocol does not allow a proper hosting of our TOML file on IPFS. We would like to lock our issuer account, however if our home domain is not a proper link, this appears not trustworhty on exchanges or stellar explorer sites like stellar.expert.
We hope, that you guys have some ideas how to deal with this problem. Otherwise we have to stay with our non-compatible IPNS link.
More details about or product wil follow in a few weeks. For now, we are stuck with this problem.
Best regards,
Thomas
