I travel the world playing The Pokemon Trading Card game, and through my travels I have eaten plenty of fees. Banks obviously charge less than exchange companies but either way I'm losing money for the only reason of needing money. I await the day that a currency is accepted by the mass grouping of first world countries. In my opinion the only way we will ever get close to that goal is through an online currency. Not sure which one it will be at the end of the day but might as well get a head start.
The day I await for is still past the horizon but sometimes the world moves faster than you can expect, or that you are even ready for.
