Title:
Rigel - Monetize Links for Payments and Donations in Seconds
Summary:
Rigel enables anyone to use Stellar to setup donation pages or monetize content, articles, digital goods, and access to meetings and webinars. It is non-custodial, takes only seconds to setup and requires no software integration.
Category:
Applications, Tools & Infrastructure
Goals:
Build a general purpose content locker that enables Stellar to be used for micropayments and donations by the masses. Rigel links can be setup in seconds and is usable to non-technical users. Each link can be tracked and managed individually.
Description:
Rigel enables anyone from content creators to nonprofits to setup passive income streams via micropayments using Stellar. Digital content creators can use Rigel to monetize their content and setup storefronts. Charities and organizations can use Rigel to create donation pages that give the donor a special little something in return.
To publish a link, the publisher could chose from a selection of designs or upload his own branding resources to personalize. Each link could be tracked, managed, and updated individually.
Publishers fill out the title, description, and unlocking requirements for each link he publishes. These are saved to his account and can be easily updated. All Stellar payments are sent directly to the Stellar address he registered with.
Roadmap:
- Support more options for customization (slugs, description, etc...) and personalization (like upload images)
- Support confirmed ratings. Consumers can send a second transaction like rate5*rigel.link to attach a rating and review to their preceding transaction.
- Support reporting and notification for publishers
- Support preview images, inter-linking and cataloging links from same publisher into storefronts.
- Support custom Stellar assets besides XLM
- Support domain verification (for charities and organizations)
- Set expiration time for each campaign
- Stopping campaign at any time (payment information replaced with message, for example linking to a follow up campaign)
- Support optional API call backs after payment succeeds
- Embeddable widget that allows Rigel to be used from other websites
Why is your project valuable for Stellar?
Rigel offers a non-custodial micropayment option for Stellar that is very easy to use and does not require any software integrations. It is very flexible and enables grassroot micropayment economies to develop on Stellar. It allows non-technical users to receive benefits from Stellar's virtually non-existent fees and fast transaction speeds.
How does your project use Stellar?
Rigel is designed to be very easy to use for both producers and consumers. Producers sign up with their Stellar account or federation address and configure content locking. Consumers trying to access a link will be prompted to send a Stellar payment within an alloted time frame.
Rigel generates a Stellar federation address for payments and associate them to producers and their links. Stellar payments are made directly from consumer account to producer account. It monitors Stellar network for matching payments and unlocks link for the consumer once a matching payment has been made with matching Stellar transaction memo, amount, and asset. Rigel is non-custodial and uses XLM for on-chain payment. In the future it will allow any Stellar asset to be used.
Trivia:
I was thinking about the right name for this project since starting to develop it and after looking up available domains finally chose RIGEL, a blue and white supergiant displayed in the logo and prominently on the entry of the homepage.
From wikipedia:
Rigel is a star in the constellation of Orion, approximately 860 light-years (260 pc) away. Rigel is the brightest and most massive component of a star system of at least four stars that appear as a single blue-white point of light to the naked eye. A blue supergiant, Rigel is calculated to be anywhere from 61,500 to 363,000 times as luminous as the Sun, and 18 to 24 times as massive, depending on the method and assumptions used. Its radius is over 70 times that of the Sun, and its surface temperature is 12,100 K. Rigel's mass-loss due to its stellar wind is estimated to be 10 million times more than that of the Sun. With an estimated age of 7 to 9 million years, Rigel has exhausted its core hydrogen fuel, expanded and cooled to become a supergiant.
