Binance requires a 6-digit MEMO id -- what is that?

I have an XLM wallet at Binance. I also have a local Stellar Wallet on my PC. I've been trying for over two months to send my XLM tokens from Binance to my Stellar Wallet.

I'm having trouble with a Binance field that is labeled "Memo". All this time, I thought this field was a spot for me to enter a notice or reminder to myself, which normally is what a "memo" is. However, Binance Support tells me that it's a 6-digit key. (I've made hundreds of transactions in the past across a dozen different tokens and have never encountered something like a "Memo".)

I have no idea what a Memo ID is or where I can get it. Can someone tell me?

I'm still relatively new to the crypto game but I don't consider myself dumb. But not knowing what the hell a Memo ID is or where I get it makes me feel dumb.

Hello, is it 2 part authentication? Did you set that up on binance?

I'm not sure whether it's a part of 2FA. But I'm thinking now that it does in fact have something to do with the authentication of Stellar Lumen transactions.

Turns out that, when I tried one more time to transfer my XLM, I deselected the Memo option and the transfer worked like a charm. After two months of frustration, simply NOT checking the Memo option solved the "invalid tag id" error I kept getting!

Too bad Binance Support couldn't have told me that two months ago.

Case closed. All is well.
