Hi everyone!
I wanted to introduce myself, and a project I’ve been working on. My name is Fletcher and I’m a software developer by day. Coming from a background in tech, but also dabbling in finance/economics, I was immediately captivated by what Stellar is doing and how deep the potential runs for it. I’m really excited to learn more -- feeling like I’ve only scratched the surface so far. Aside from the tech, I really dig Stellar’s stated goal of providing access to financial markets for people who don’t have that opportunity -- typically those in poverty. This is a big reason I wanted to be involved.
Focusing on Assets
My site is stellarasset.com. As you might guess, it focuses on assets. To be honest, the bullets below are fluid -- I’m still exploring and trying to determine where the project is headed. Right now I’m drawn to the concept of assets and their issuers for several reasons.
- Assets and their issuers seem to be the main point of trust in the system. An asset is only as good as the word and stability of its issuer. With visibility into what an asset is, who issues it, what it’s used for etc. -- I’m hopeful that trusting will become more intuitive over time.
- I think that the concept of assets on Stellar has some awesome potential. Beyond ICO’s or other types of assets currently on the network, the possibilities for how you could use these vehicles is very exciting.
- Looking at assets (both individually and in aggregate) seems like it will be a meaningful indicator for how Stellar is being used. I’m hopeful this will be valuable to the market -- perhaps exposing business opportunities around the Stellar platform. Put another way: broadly available information about how Stellar is/isn’t used may help entrepreneurs fill gaps in services, and hopefully makes the platform more efficient and effective.
None of these are novel thoughts -- just a couple of my personal incentives for choosing where to focus. And to be clear, stellarasset.com has a long ways to go before realizing these goals -- it’s a humble beginning at this point.
Right now the site is quite simple. It indexes assets on the network, snapshots several metrics to build out historical data for an asset, and provides some basic information about the issuer.
Next Steps
I have lots of ideas on next steps -- but I would really value input from everyone here on:
The idea of stellarasset.com. Does it appeal to you? Do you see it being useful in its current trajectory? With a different trajectory?
The site itself (design, bugs, etc.)
Ideas to improve what stellarasset.com is trying to do.
Things you like about the site?
Thanks for taking the time to read. Happy to answer any questions you have.
p.s. I’ll be submitting stellarasset.com for the SBC!
