We are working on the first game on Stellar utilizing the SDEX where players can earn Stellar based cryptocurrency. There is no need to own or know about crypto to start playing the game, so we expect to introduce thousands, ten-thousands or even more new users to the Stellar ecosystem.

Goals & Timeline:

Building a complete game-economy with a shared global market on the SDEX.
Introducing players to Stellar and educate them how to set up their first Stellar account, how to trade assets on the SDEX, how to make a transaction etc.

1. Single player mechanics
Placing and upgrading buildings
User interface functions
Upkeep and consume of resources
Resource production balance
Collecting resources
Crafting goods and enhancing resources
Expanding territory
Military buildings and units
NPC raids

2. Multiplayer mechanics
Trading resources on a global market utilizing the Stellar DEX.
Diplomatic actions and interactions
Raiding other players bases
PvP skirmish matchmaking
Defending against and conquering/dominating other players
Working together to beat global dangers

Because of the scope and complexity of the game, we don't want to publish a timeline with fixed dates. Looking at previous progress made, we are positive to enter alpha testing at latest 6 months after receiving the necessary funds. Until then, we will release weekly or bi-weekly playable dev-builds for those interested in our discord channel.

The base game is similar to other mobile MMORTS where you need to harvest different resources to craft goods, tools and enhance resources.

Description:

City States is the first of a new kind of games. Not because it uses a token as the in-game currency but because resources in the game are issued as assets on Stellar and tradeable on the SDEX. Players can earn crypto by trading smart, producing goods that are in high demand or by conquering other players. Unlike other blockchains like ethereum, there is no need for the player to know about or own crypto before starting to play. Instead, Stellar and it's possibilities will be introduced over time in a non-intrusive way.
The possibility to earn money by playing without having to buy in first is a huge incentive for potential players to try out the game.

Platforms:

All dev-builds, balancing and testing will be done on builds for windows first. The full release will be available for Desktop (Windows), Tablets and Smartphones (iOS, Android) and browser based (WebGL). Versions for MacOS and Linux will be developed if demand is high enough to justify maintenance of another build. The game will be 100% cross-platform compatible!

Anything else:

To avoid a wall of text like in the previous round, this is a shortened description. For more detailed information, please check our sub-reddit. A FAQ will be established under this post.

FAQ:

How many members do you have on your team?
We are a team of 6 from all over the world (Germany, Italy, 2xMexico, Philippines and UAE) working part time and remotely on the game.

Do you have an official webpage?
Yes, you can check https://www.stratemacy.com for more information. It's still a work in progress though.

We also added a few social channels to follow up on development:
twitter: https://www.twitter.com/addirktive
reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/citystates
discord: https://www.discord.gg/vMW52wF

facebook: https://www.facebook.com/citystatesm

Did you implement any gameplay mechanics yet?
Yes there are already several game mechanics. A little list:

  • Build UI to build any of the buildings, sorted by type, showing cost to build
  • terrain restrictions on where buildings can be built
  • level up of buildings
  • max level restriction by castle level
  • destroy buildings
  • move buildings

Each building has several and sometimes differing mechanics implemented already:

  • get new villagers (unemployed Pops) in Village House

  • hire Pops to jobs/buildings in production buildings if unemployed are available

  • fired Pops from jobs/buildings in production buildings turn back into unemployed Pops
Handling of Pops can also be done from the Population UI as a central point, firing Pops in the Pop UI removes from the building with the highest count first, hiring adds to the building with the lowest count

  • Farm: the player has to plant crops which have different timers until ready for harvest

  • Other: most raw resource buildings have local storage and gather X amount per hour until local storage is full, can then be collected and sent to global storage

Having a small playable demo would be great.
A playable demo can be downloaded here (Public Build June 21 2019). For more recent builds, please join us on discord.

Would it be possible to get a Mac or Linux build?
In the future that's absolutely a possibility but this early in the dev-cycle we only support one system that most potential testers use. We are planning to support iOS/Android (it's mainly developed for mobile use), Windows and browser based. Mac and Linux depends on the success of the game if it's feasible to maintain another build.

Will players be able to move their resources off created account in the game?
The player can not move resources out of the game to prevent cheating and manipulation of the market. Players are storage restricted as part of the game balancing. If a user could simply send resources between accounts avoiding the market, they could circumvent this restriction. There is no use for the resources other than in the game, moving them out is not necessary at all.

However the player can sell resources for HEX and move those to their own account. HEX will be freely tradeable for everyone.

How can players trade resources and items?
They can trade inside the game. There will be a custom SDEX interface accessible through the Market building. We are evaluating the option of trust limits and multisig so players can also trade resources outside the game.

citystates I read your post - it was a long time but interesting!) This is cool material and analysis of the gaming crypto market. It is still really difficult and centralized. Success and creativity in your business! Soon, people will learn more about Stellar and its products.
