About DéMars.io
DéMars is a payment solutions service based on the Stellar Blockchain. The service is focused on enabling instant cross-border micropayments within and to Africa majorly for Inter-Africa migrants and the diaspora.
DéMars is focused on making it possible to send less than $10 back home in real time with a cost of no more than 1%.
DeMars has to date launched an Android wallet as its sole application product. There will be a web wallet launched towards the end of 2019 which will be offered to online merchants. This will enable us to reach a whole new market with zero chargeback risk.
Our focus: Towards a Financially Inclusive Africa
Problem
Cross-border payments to and within the African continent are among the most expensive in the world. More people migrate within the African continent than from it. These migrants often do not have the means to send money home, since many cannot obtain bank accounts or meet the minimum payment thresholds and fees set by the various money transfer operators within continent.
The DéMars Solution
DéMars is solving these problems by building and connecting Digital Asset issuers across the Continent. This will enable migrants to instantly send money home, no matter how small the sum, and can make a huge difference to their families.
Features
• A mobile wallet App: DéMars has published an Android Mobile Wallet application, known as DMC, to hold and transact with Digital Assets based on the Stellar Network.
• The DMC mobile wallet App has a simple user interface, where its customizable functionality enables users to quickly and easily add verified and native Digital Assets.
• The Digital Assets are currently anchored on South African Rands (ZAR), the DéMars Coin (DMC), Nigerian Naira Tethered (NGNT) and shortly will include Kenyan Shillings (KES) and Zimbabwean Dollars (ZWL) too.
• Users can securely deposit, exchange and transact within the mobile wallet.
Technology services
DéMars will operate on the Stellar Network Anchor: An anchor is an entity on the Stellar Network which is trusted to take deposits, hold collateral and issue credit in the form of a Digital Asset onto the network.
DéMars is integrating its wallets with the existing Anchors, building and operating Sandbox Anchors and working with existing financial services who wish to participate on the Network.
The DéMars team are able to build custom solutions for regulated financial service providers who require technical guidance and support. These solutions can be fully integrated and connected to existing systems.
DéMars will also offer branded android wallets, API’s and a market making bot.
Costs
For Merchants
Merchants who retain funds within the wallet, will pay zero fees and withdrawals costing only 1%.
Customers
For customers, transactions will be free, with no need to carry a card. The customer can simply open the DMC Wallet App, select the currency to pay with, scan the QR code of the participating merchant and tap pay. Transactions are processed and confirmed within 5 seconds.
DéMars Fees
App fees
Downloads: Free

An example of these are in Zimbabwe where all electronic transactions incur a 2% government sanctioned transaction tax. Similarly, when a cash deposit is made into any of the South African DéMars bank accounts, the user will be liable for the cash deposit fee.

Wallet testers
Earn 5 Stellar Lumens (XLM) for testing the DMC mobile wallet App by downloading the App and opening an account.

This is a great project for building on stellar, DMC can connect the fragment payment ecosystem in Africa.

bkolobara changed the title to demars.io: A new payment solution for Africa .

Thankyou fo your response muststopmashort. We are working hard towards achieving the same goal

I have mixed feelings about your project.

First and foremost, I think your fundamental idea is great and I wish you great success.

Second though, your use of DeMarscoin is a clear infringement of our USA trademark for Marscoin, which requires us to issue a cease-and-desist order against you using that name.

Third, Mauritius is the target location for us to have a Marscoin development center as our main hub for Africa, which makes me want to work with you and pay you to build and manage Marscoin related products and services.

So, I can't allow you to promote or even mention something called DeMarscoin in the United States or anywhere else covered by the Madrid system of coordinated trademarks, which is most of the world. HOWEVER, if you want to use the Marscoin brand, I will pay you 10 million MUR upfront and issue you 10 million Marscoin XMC for free if we can work out a reasonable way to work together.

This is a brilliant idea and a project I am happy to have as an African. The fees for sending money across African borders is exorbitant especially for small amounts that are common for many people working in other African countries. It has been really hard for people sending little amounts to help out with fees and bills for their relatives back home. Not forgetting the dabbling people have to do due to the little to no interoperability among different money transfer services existing in different nations. For sure, a product like DéMars is long overdue.

DéMars will be solving a perennial problem that majority of people in Africa identify with. Low fees, easy transfers, and good exchange rates are some of the reasons I believe will make DéMars the money transfer service of choice in Africa. I am really excited and pray for great success for the DéMars project.

    Cheers.

    Dear DrewPalmer

Thank you for your message and well wishes on our project. We are very excited about it and believe it can make a real difference in the African Market and diaspora community, one which as African diaspora ourselves, we fully understand.

Our project is called DéMars aka "DMC" which stands for DéMars Coin - we refer to our business as DéMars or DMC and not "DeMarscoin" as mentioned by you.

Our name "sort of" means "of March" in French, as a reference to the software development company which is developing this project - March Hare & Co. Ltd (a registered Mauritian entity).

We respectfully disagree with you that there is any confusion between your Marscoin and our DéMars or DMC project. Also please note that we do not trade in the US and have no intention of ever trading in the US.

We wish you well with your project and all the best for the future.

    Regards

    Shaun Burrow

I have spent a lot of time thinking about this and way too much in legal fees. Mauritius is not formally part of the Madrid protocol and I really want a Mauritius hub for Marscoin so can we compromise on demars as your service mark but never demarscoin? (No accent ague on the hotel provided iPad and I apologize for that). And we can move this discussion private, but trademarks are fragile if not publicly defended
