  • An Equitable Worldwide Lumen Distribution Program

I have been an avid follower of Stellar since inception. Stellar has always sought to expand financial access by finding ways to distribute its digital currency, XLM, fairly and equitably among the world’s underbanked population and level the playing field to access financial services, while avoiding abuse and duplication. I think I just came up with a near perfect way to do just that!

While there are over 3 Billion active smartphones today, the number is expected to top 6.1 Billion by 2020, with most of the growth coming from less mature markets (1). With today’s world population just over 7.5 Billion (2), this presents a near perfect opportunity for Stellar to reach maximum number of world citizens using smartphones without worry of abuse or duplication.

How? Recent advancements in eye biometric scan applications ie. eyeD, that use AES 256-bit encryption, allow for people to create accounts using their eye-scan without compromising their identity. Stellar can even establish a grant to develop its own cryptographically programmed eyescan app that creates a lumen wallet based on the unique eye-scan. This will prevent any chance of duplication or abuse of distributed funds.

Do you think this idea can speed up the equitable distribution and adoption process?

sami Most of the face/eye scan technologies can be easily fooled with printed out pictures of someone else. And this looks like it's an overcomplicated solution for this problem. I think that SDF's current way of distributing lumens is not perfect, but also not that bad either.

Fingerprint/retina scans/face recognition is only a "user name", never a password.

dzham I think what OP worries about is the proof that users are real (unique) persons. But I agree, it can only be a user name.

Best thing is to Distribute part of Lumens to Apps users.
Of course, we need more useful Apps that are used to solve real world problems.
For example, a customer of Tempo, a wallet user (long period user), users of parkway project, users of bext360, users of Stellarterm etc...
These users will be real, at least big percentage of them and the giveaways will support the ecosystem.
Between, Build challenge was from beginning our idea when we were hanging on the old forum Stellartalk. It proved to be useful to give Lumens for people helping build the ecosystem. In my opinion, the Lumens giveaway can also be used to attract more users for the ecosystem and help Apps gain popularity and liquidity.

dzham Agreed but still a good way to distribute avoiding duplication. The post was about distribution and not security.

sim1981 The point I was trying to make is to find ways to reach the unreachable without abuse of duplication. That said, I agree that taking care of the ecosystem as being done with the ongoing giveaways should be at the forefront.
