I am currently working on a standalone device to accept XLM in stores. It's a battery powered device with an e-paper display. A web app is used to enter the amount (in fiat) and to monitor transactions. When the transaction has been confirmed the device informs the customer through it's display. jeremy82many Yes. It displays a QR code that the customer can scan. I am not sure if that is simple enough though.

albimcleod thank you. While I need to use another library on my tiny embedded chip, I was looking for some information about what data to put in the QR-Code. The problem I have is more about usability though. There is no wallet for iOS (in the store) that allows scanning QR-Codes and people might not like to keep their funds on a phone. I’ll have to look into it.

Have you tried Centaurus? It says it has iOS support and the android version has a qr reader. The library I pointed you too has the format if you look into the code, otherwise this is the minimum for mainnet. After a lot of research I figured that there is no good consumer wallet for iOS. Until there is I don't see a chance for mass adaption. So I decided to extend my portfolio before I even have one and start with a new iOS wallet especially optimized for simplicity. It is (in a way) meant to pay for goods in retail stores. There's no iOS wallet because Apple has a whitelist of crypto currencies they allow software for, and AFAIK Stellar is not on the list.

Here is my first update: Rocket Wallet will eventually support QR-Code scanning on iOS, that's why I continue working on the device (I will build a wallet optimized for retail customers later). Some of you have donated a total of 30XLM!!!!! That's awesome and shows that people are interested in the project. Thank You so much!! I will buy another development board from the donations. (I am adding a donation counter to the website while we speak). I transfered this and some more to a dedicated wallet ( tips*hodldeck.com or GCEVAWUOPEZRLEHG35CBHRZETAX3O4EQBKUKOU62GZRGOMZX4QUCA2ZN ) for HODLDeck. The money inside this wallet will be used exclusively to fund the project I also added a gallery to the website ( http://www.hodldeck.com/#Gallery ). The dev board I am using crashes when tryig to validate the stellar Horizon API server (certificate is too big), which means I can not connect to it directly (which was not the plan for the long term, but would have sped up development in the beginning) I started writing the backend in node.js and express. savebattgo I will offer preorders (unfortunately some parts might not arrive until the end of SBC) for a Kit with 3D printed case for 29,99€ plus shipping. Sourcing the parts from china (excluding shipping and the case) will cost approximately 10€ - you might get them form eBay for ~15€

A commercial preassembled device will require some certification and much more overhead, so I expect it to be around 60€. Since anyone in china can build their own version of it there might be much cheaper options though.
